Head Gardener Tours 2017
Join our Head Gardener, Martin Ogle for a guided walk of the gardens. Discover more about the renovation project and enjoy this beautiful site as it’s brought to life in a fascinating and engaging tour. Martin has led the garden renovation project through many significant stages of its development and provides the vision, skill and knowledge the project has come to represent.
£10 per person including admission, book your ticket online now or call us on 01931 712192. If you've not visited us before please be aware some parts of the garden are quite wild, therefore we recommend suitable footwear be worn.
Each tour focuses on a different aspect of the gardens, offering an entirely new perspective on the experience.
Thursday 6th April – Spring flowers & bulbs
Wednesday 10th May – Late daffodils, enjoy the gardens at a particularly magical time of year experience our huge drifts of rare late flowering white daffodils (narcissus actaea) on the patte d’oie, 106,000 of these beautiful flowers were planted in 2012 as part of a world record breaking attempt.
Wednesday 14th June – Blossom & wildflowers. Early wildflowers in the parterre tapestry garden, garden in the ruin and rock garden will all be showing seasonal interest
Thursday 13th July – Behind the scenes look at plans for the Rose Garden including 1800 different varieties of roses, 19,000 perennials, spring flowering trees and shrubs and using over 3000 bulbs.
Wednesday 16th August – Summer flowers, experience the 2 ½ acres of wild flower meadows that adorn either side of the south lawns in full bloom. Including corn poppies, corn marigolds, cornflowers and cowslip.
Thursday 21st September – Orchard project, visit the new Orchard at Lowther and spot the apples, pears, plums and damsons.
Thursday 19th October – Early autumn colour & trees of Lowther, From broadleaf to evergreen trees, this tour will focus on the use of trees within the landscape. Take a walk through the gardens and enjoy the fresh Autumn air and the crisp Autumnal colours.
Wednesday 15th November – Winter garden & skeleton of the historic gardens. As much of the vegetation retreats back for the winter, enjoy the opportunity to explore the skeleton of the historic gardens.
