Lowther Castle Loop – Ullswater Way

The Lake District National Park Authority and Lowther Castle have joined forces to create the Lowther Castle Loop – a 7.5 mile circular walk which begins and ends at Lowther Castle and forms part of the Ullswater Way.

This walk – along with five other cruise-and-stroll walks – features in the Ullswater Way official guide. The guide costs £6 and can be bought at Admissions. Points of interest illustrated include the Cop Stone, Askham Hall and the village of Helton. Walkers can enjoy these and other delights before taking tea and refreshments back in the café at Lowther Castle. Please note – if you park at the castle, there is a £2 daily charge.

If you would like to know what it is like to experience the loop, please read the attached blog from a volunteer attached to Friends of the Ullswater Way.

Lowther Park

Visitors are welcome to walk anywhere in Lowther Park that is not marked private. Please note that the Lowther Estate herd of cattle roams free. Dogs should be kept on leads – unless there is no livestock; and litter, please take it home.
